We recently hosted two students from Japan while they were engaged in a one-month English studies program at SDSU, under the auspices of OvECS Ltd. It was our first homestay experience, and it couldn't have been more gratifying and heartwarming.
The two young women who stayed with us were polite, considerate, mature and appreciative. Helping them with their English was an absolute delight and witnessing their improvement within the space of a few weeks was rewarding and praiseworthy.
The OvECS program is sound, conscientious and professional. We received numerous e-mail messages from the local director, whose sincere effort was to ensure that all the students benefited in every way possible from exposure to American culture, American families and their language. We were prepared in advance for the visit and encouraged to communicate directly with the two students with whom we would be sharing our home.
This wonderful opportunity was an unequivocal success. It was a distinct pleasure to work with the OvECS team and most particularly with its local program leader, who endeavored from the outset to match us with motivated students who would respond well to our lifestyle and support. It was a treat and a joy to share meals with our students and to drive them to school each morning while practicing the pronunciation and spelling of new English words.
We were astonished on the last day of our students' visit by the unanticipated emotional reactions of both young ladies when we drove them to SDSU for the last time where they were to depart by bus for LAX. We were presented with two heartfelt and touching thank you cards which we shall cherish forever. In addition, the girls have sent us e-mail messages from Japan expressing their appreciation and expectation that they will return to this country.
OvECS does it right, from start to finish. One would be hard-pressed to find a more effective, responsive and thorough homestay organization. There's an old expression that "you never get a second chance to make a good first impression." In this challenging business, it would appear that good communication, a comprehensive screening
process and application system are the keys to a successful outcome.
OvECS deserves accolades for the way it delivers its services, and for the way it respects the wishes and preferences of both host families and student homestay guests. Above all, OvECS made a great, positive first impression.
